Not Alone
Not Alone |
No, you’re not alone.
You take a look at what trends these days and all that you might be seeing are merely folks your age living the way they want. Adults say it every time, that we live in a godless generation where everyone has lost regard for the things of God. Youths and teenagers especially seem to find God boring.
If this is true, then it is not far from the truth that it gets somewhat depressing at times to think that you’re the only one serving God where you are.
I feel your desperation to be strengthened by the Christian walk of another young boy or girl your age and be sure that you’re not the only one trying to serve God. I know what it feels like to have everyone in your class quickly paired up at functions or meetings but you seem like the fifth leg, all because you chose to stick to God’s word and hold His instructions in high esteem.
Your might have even been tagged a ‘social misfit’ because you do not seem to be interested in any other thing than the Jesus. You’re not alone.
Or you’ve perhaps seen that it seems impossible to beat them, so you have decided or are currently deciding to go with the flow and join them. The ‘we’ve got a whole lifetime ahead of us’ is kinda making sense to you. That means you can enjoy yourself now, and seemingly chase after God later. After all, who still serves Jesus nowadays?
Youths have to be free and express themselves. You only live once, isn’t it? Besides, the fact that you’ve not been seeing folks standing strong around you is not encouraging you either, right? You’re not alone.
The mighty fire-raining Prophet Elijah once felt this way as well. After he’d just destroyed a clique of worthless men who led Israel away in the worship of Baal, he was threatened by Queen jezebel to run away from town on the premise that she would kill him. He felt lonely. Can you imagine that? The mighty Elijah who declared that it would not rain for three years and then prayed afterwards for the rains to return, felt like he was alone.
Whilst God gave him instructions on what to do, he still assured Elijah of the fact that there were still seven thousand men who were just like him and had not bowed to Baal. Funny, isn’t it? See 1 Kings 19. There are awesome lessons in that chapter for you.
The truth is that even though not many, there are still many folks like you. There are young men like you out there who love God, who are committed to his word and living out the life of Christ. There are teenagers out there who have decided to stand for God in this current perverse and godless generation.
Yes, they exist. Another thing is that it is not hard to find them. They are around you. A classmate, a friend, your sibling, family member, cousin, someone you follow online, a moderator on the Distinguished Teenagers group.
Not that it has been easy, but you see, there are teenagers that have determined that as regards the gospel, they’re all sold out! For God’s kingdom, can go any length.
Through Gods Spirit, they carry on. You can go on too. You can be a shining light for Jesus in this generation. You can bring the gospel to those around you. You can be on fire for the Lord and burn with passion even as a teenager or youth.
Don’t be deceived into thinking that you still have the time. Truly, you only live once, so you had better live this one life well. Serve God now in the days of your youth, it gets better as you advance in age, you’ll see.
That’s what man was made for. David, Daniel, Mary-Martha’s sister, Timothy, in fact most of Jesus’ disciples were young guys like you, and they had an awesome relationship with the Lord. Now, you have the Spirit of God inside of you as an advantage, so there’s so much more that you can do according to the power that works within you.
Do well to get across to friends that you know, those friends in your school that are passionate about God. That your cousin who’s always posting about Jesus online, that guy you observed is serious with things spiritual. Don’t be afraid, speak up and chat with them.
Let them know that you desire to get better too. And trust me, they’ll receive you with open arms. You never know, you could be an answer too someone else’s prayer. You would be an encouragement as well. They would be ready to assist you get better. Your company matters a lot, so get it right with making the right friends first.
Lastly, know that you’re never alone, not for a second. In this seemingly dark age, where youths are known for being restless and mischievous, losing the standards of God and forsaking the bible in the name of being civilized, know that there are still many youths and teenagers, boys and girls with hearts set on the lord, growing and serving Him within their respective circles of influence. You can be one too.
And together we’ve got a whole lifetime ahead of us. Gaining admission, graduating, going for youth service, getting jobs, marrying and raising children in this way. We’re set on this course for the rest of our lives. Together, we’ll see the knowledge of God spread in this age! All by the Spirit of the Lord within us! Amen!
