Faith is Work
Reference Scriptural passage- Acts 14
Here was a man who had been crippled from birth listening to Peter preach. Attention is attractive. His own attention attracted Peter's. At times, we do not get the things we want from God because we do not pay enough attention to Him. Reception is first a posture of heart, before it is the receipt of a thing. Are you attentive to God and His Words?
We see in this scripture that the attention of the lame man to the words of Peter was what made him noticed. After his attention commanded that of Peter, what next happened? Peter looked directly at him, and saw that he had faith to be healed. It was on this strength of this deduction that Peter said to him, Stand up on your feet. The latter part of that verse says at that, the man jumped up and began to walk.
This man did not doubt the words of Peter. He had every logical reason to, because he had never even walked all his life. But because he had faith, the moment he heard stand up on your feet, he immediately jumped up and began to walk! He was not asking questions. Faith does not ask questions. Faith walks, when it hears walk. Faith builds, when he hears builds. Faith does not sit down on a spot waiting for Peter to pull him up.
There is an unbroken link between faith and works. Faith is potential in nature, work is what makes it kinetic, and gets it productive. Faith can mean different things to different believers on different journeys. For the lame man, faith meant walk! For you, faith might mean starting that business you have always been afraid to start. Faith might mean giving that exam another try. Faith might mean making that phone call. Faith might mean talking to that grumpy guy. Faith might mean preaching to your muslim friend. Faith can mean attempting that very thing you have always considered impossible to do. Faith is work, so walk!
